Why Hike Alpine Mine Overlook
Perched 3,130-ft above Ouray, the Alpine Mine Overlook features 180-degree panoramic views of the Ouray area and the wall of cliffs and mountains rising to the east. Hayden Mountain and the peaks looming above the Million Dollar Highway dominate the scene to the south and southeast.
The half-day hike to the overlook is a good workout and a great way to acclimate, climbing over 2,000-ft in just under 3-miles. Along the way hikers are treated to close-up views of Hayden Mountain and the jagged cliff face defining the western wall of the Weehawken Valley.
Be aware that you will not be alone on the popular hike, located just 3-miles to the west of Ouray.
